Do Black Lives Really Matter?
Do black lives really matter? Of course, they do! But while a significant portion of “black lives matter” are ad hoc groups of protesters, most people don’t realize that Black Lives Matter is also a misleading name for a radical political organization. Look it up here: www.BlackLivesMatter.com Last month (May 25, 2020), the whole world saw a video of a rogue policeman choke the life out of George Floyd and 95% of Americans were angered, appalled, and outraged, myself included. He and the policemen who didn’t stop their colleague from killing Mr Floyd should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I’m an old white man in my seventies and I can’t imagine the amount of pain and frustration that killing of another unarmed black man caused in the black community. The black community had every right to take their frustration out by protesting and marching against the police and demanding change. Black lives do matter. No phones at the meal table is our rule and that is for adults and children. Even now when the house phone rings I have to yell 'leave it' as the children all rush to answer it. It is difficult - just like TV can suck you in (I call it the Thought Vacuum) the ipad and iTouch all do the same thing. Last night my teenage daughter was sitting on our bed trying to talk to us and I was busy with my iTouch downloading something. I got told off! Kids need to feel empowered in a resepctful way to remind their parents of their own rules. Great article - thanks for sharing it with us all.

I think one of the best things I did as a parent was to make family meal time in the evening sacred and protect it from intrusions like phone calls, work, tv, etc. Even as teens the kids were expected home for supper if at all possible. That 15-20 minutes of conversation is so worth it.
