Mario Party 6, like its many predecessors, is a board game style game where you collect stars that are randomly placed on the board. The number of turns to be taken is set at the beginning of the game, and the player with the most stars at the end, wins. Between ‘sets’ of turns (after every fourth player has taken a turn) mini games are played. These games can be from ANY category of game. They range from strategy to flight simulator. The mini games are where all the competition of Mario Party happens. The winner of a mini game gets 10 coins and it costs 20 coins to get a Star. What is unique about this Mario Party is that you can use a Microphone to give commands to your character in some of the mini games. This makes for interesting game play.

Violence Score: 16 out of 20

_x_ - Cartoon Type Silly, Non-Deadly Violence (-4 pts)

The violence in Mario Party 6 consists of things like having Bowser land on a character and turn them into a pancake, and being shocked by transporters and jiggling as a result. It is all very cartoon like.

Language: 20 out of 20

No language problems

Nudity/Sexual Content: 20 out of 20

No sexual content

Occult/Supernatural: 20 out of 20

No occult or supernatural

Cultural/Moral/Ethical:  20 out of 20

There is no category for this in our rating system, but during the course of the game, you can hire a ‘Boo’ to steal coins or stars from another character. This is all portrayed as silly in the game, but it may be an issue that you should discuss with your child, especially if they are younger then 5.

Conclusion:

Mario party is a great game for the family, and promotes doing activities together. Whenever my family gets together at a reunion, or just with some cousins, we haul out the Mario Party and have hours of hilarious fun. Its almost like playing Monopoly or Clue. The best part is you can be of any age and enjoy the game. Plus, the Microphone adds a new element to the game play. The draw back to the microphone is that the speech recognition software isn’t the best. This can make the game annoying or it can have some hilarious side effects, especially with the fruit basket mini game.  Mario Party 6 gets a 96 (A).
